No Mike, the picture was taken in Alsace-Lorraine, France or possibly across the river in the German Black Forest.  Either way it was a German beer and good....I think Dreher.  Thick-based bottle, and one of the best beers I've had, as I recall.

Leinenkugel is a good beer though, and a lot of WI people with good taste in beer make that their first choice.

Rod..just saw your last post..don't know what to tell you about these Bears. Major problems.  Here is what it looks like right now, and I quote:

"NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Bears are planning to fire Mel Tucker after the season, barring significant improvement in the final three weeks of the year.

Rapoport also reported that the Bears are having a serious case of buyer’s remorse with Jay Cutler and doubt whether he can lead the team to the playoffs.

The Bears rank 26th in total defense, 28th in pass defense and 17th in run defense.

Speculation about Tucker’s job security has swirled ever since allowing 50-plus points in back-to-back losses to the Patriots and Packers.

Rapoport said he isn’t convinced head coach Marc Trestman will lose his job."

And to wash this information down, here's your favorite guy:

And while I'm at it, I might as well fill up on my monthly quota of posts.  What are the chances I would run into Class of '64 types at one of my favorite old haunts....Kinzie Chophouse?  Well, it actually didn't happen that way.  Mary Giermann and Madelon Henderson, along with a couple of friends from Texas, were spending a few days in Chicago's River North area, and were kind enough to ask me to join them for dinner their last night here.  Good times.....can't remember last time I had a steak......company and food hit the spot.

Jack, understand that Eastern European's like their beer room temperature. How is that? I'm not ready to go that route. Jetton mentioned that German beer is thicker and packs quite a wallop. Last we talked, he's more into wine.

Mike,

I think you're thinking of western Europeans.  My experience, all the way from England to Italy, is that the beer is chilled but not ice cold.  Trust me, you'd drink it.

As for eastern Europeans, they drink vodka. Warm, cold, it doesn't matter.  I was once at a wedding where the Polish table brought their own (large quantity of) vodka.  Left the wine alone.  Put the vodka on the table and drank it like mineral water.  Every time I looked over, they had to replace the bottle.

As for your cousin Steve, I don't know about wine, but noticed he has above average refinement in his beer selections.  Not sure about hamburgers, though.  I once saw him buy a burger at McDonald's.

I think that's Owens Nursery!  Small sign, bottom right: "Welcome".

Vodka? People drink that before they polka. (or Bunny Hop)

GETTING OLDER

A distraught senior citizen
phoned her doctor's office.
"Is it true," she wanted to know,
"that the medication
you prescribed has to be taken
for the rest of my life?"
"'Yes, I'm afraid so,"' the doctor told her.
There was a moment of silence
before the senior lady replied,
"I'm wondering, then,
just how serious is my condition
because this prescription is marked
'NO REFILLS'.."

Linda, I was curious as to how the FBI training turned out. You may have posted on that experience, but I must have missed it. Sounded like it may have been pretty intense, but well worth the time and effort?

Mike:

I am now considered an alum of the FBI Citizen's Academy.  We meet every 3 months and twice per year we put on a picnic and a dinner for the FBI and their families.   I didn't know to begin with, however, El Paso's FBI is the largest in the USA as well as our DEA.  Our academy functions for both.

Basically the academy was started to allow the general community to better understand the purpose of the FBI, but we really learned a lot: Types of cases in country as well as out, speakers as well as first hand reports of very difficult cases, participated on surveilance and arrest.   We got a first-hand view of how hard they work.   The FBI are permanently on 24-7 call.

The history of the FBI from it's concept was extremely interesting.

If anyone gets the opportunity to participate by nomination, I wholeheartedlly recommend that you take the course.

Linda

I'm glad that you had the opportunity. I'm definitely into law and order. I wish I were a lot younger. I have a lot of respect for those people and I'm glad that they're dedicated. Special Opps, like HRT, would be a rush. Of course they are an elite group among an elite force of agents. I know that the FBI is VERY selective as to who might be qualified to become an agent.

Good for you! It must have been exciting to attend the civilian academy.

Has anyone been in touch with Jeff Knuckles lately?  He isn't with the law firm now and his cell # is off.  He was on the swim team.   I was trying to let him know about the PA system and new blocks needed for the swim team.
