Loretta's School of Dance?

I went to one State Farm  dance, where John Coleman, future Chicago ABC (Channel 7) weatherman did a show.  He was trying to be a local Dick Clark at that time, and I think hosted some sort of  "At the Hop" on one of the TV stations around Bloomington.  I remember thinking then that this was not his calling.

Jack, wasn't the radio station out of Peoria WMBD, or was it a short lived Bloomington TV Station that I can't remember it's name?

I think it was a TV show out of Champaign?  Maybe Peoria.  I don't think Bloomington had a failed TV station yet.

Coleman started his career at WCIA in Champaign, Illinois, doing the early evening weather cast and a local bandstand show called At The Hop while he was a student at University of Illinois. After receiving his journalism degree in 1957, he became the weather anchor for WCIA's sister station WMBD-TV in Peoria, Illinois. Coleman was also a weather anchor for KETV in Omaha, WISN-TV in Milwaukee and then WBBM-TV and WLS-TV in Chicago

And you thought I didn't have a memory.

I think Bloomington's failed station was WBLN channel 15. That would have been in the 50's. I think our grade school class got to go to tour the station.

One year, during Girl Scout Week, four or five Girl Scouts from McLean County were selected to appear on WBLN Channel 15. I was a 7 year old Brownie who got to be on the program - it was pretty exciting for a little farm girl!

The hop was out of Peoria because Mary Doyle and I were on it.  I remember afterwards her sister took us to Steak n' Shake and we got a burger, fries and drink for $1.00!  Weren't those the days?  Of course, can't remember the name of the TV station?

Ok, the failed TV station was in the 50's, but I had thought in  the later 50's and am apparently wrong on that.  And Cheryl, the intitial Hop was out of Champaign, I remember that, and it was stated by Wikipedia.  If you were in Peoria for the Hop, they must have transferred the Hop to Peoria for a time when Coleman transferred there.  When I saw Coleman at State Farm, it was the later 50's ('58 or beyond) and he was still associated with "At the Hop"...advertised as such.

Jack, are you trying to out do us with the memory thing or maybe you looked it up and copied an pasted???  Tricky!  Only kidding!

Helen, I copied and pasted AFTER the information was initially posted.  Overall, I have a very good memory of the insignificant.  Never been able to figure out a way to get paid for it.

Linda, I certainly do remember Pastor Newell and all those families' names - brings back memories. Sherry Shickle was also in our Sunday School class and I believe that Vicki Daugherty was at one time too.

I think I knew a Mary Newell.

Jack, I too can remember lots of detail about things from the past, however can't seem to locate my glasses that I just removed from my face.  Must be short term memory loss setting in.  Why couldn't I remember dates in American History?  Would have helped with the grades!

My wife thinks it's strange that I can remember the 60's but can't remember yesterday. :)

Our son-in-law is just outside the courthouse where Lindsy Lohan is as I type.  He's with KTLA Chip Yost, a news reporter.  Our Son-in-law got a great shoot of Lindsy and is a Producer for the PBS TV Station at Cal State Fullerton.  This is kind of exciting for him and us too!

Same thing here.  I can remember conversations and looks on peoples' faces from 50 years ago, but I can't find my keys.

Jack, I found the cure for that one, I leave them in the car. (laugh)

Milan... I always used to do that, too.  But I kept bumping the lock button as I got out and shut the door.  Keys in ignition and doors locked.  I decided after a couple of times that I'd just keep them in my pocket.

I was a sales manager for years. We had company cars. Our secretary kept a spare set of keys just because of me. Strange, I only locked my keys in the car in the company parking lot, never at a customer's place of business. On a cold late afternoon I got a call that one of the customers needed a part and had to have it that night. Someone forgot to load it. So they met me half way to Pekin and I took it to Downs. Just as I shut the door, I heard the click of the lock and since it was winter, of course I left the car running. I told him I had the part in the car but it's locked. He had a buddy that would open the car for $30. The part wasn't even worth the $30 but I was a captive audience. (laugh)

Linda, hmmmmmmmmmmmm when we're driving our car we can still lock the doors from the inside!  No comprehendo?
