Michael (Mike) Franks

Max, I didn't recognize you in the pics. You seem to have evolved into a Larry Thomas look-a-like. Well, as I remember him. I hope that you get your fonts arranged. That must have been one of those "What shall we talk about now?" conversations. I hope you are well. Always remember our Lincoln School pals. Marsha Hutson? Prettiest girl in Lincoln School. Good for you.

Happy Birthday Judy Tynan Danielson! We hope you have a happy and fun day and lots more to come!

Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Mel,

Unfortunately when you live in a small town as we do (Cedar Flat, Carnelian Bay) the logistics of getting the product to the desired destination don't always work out so the doors didin't arrive.  We did, however, stain and sealed the cabin logs as an initial step in the "winterizing" process.  Those among us who live in CO, I'm sure understand.  Bad news is we have to go back up to the lake in a couple of weeks.  Good news is we have to go back up to the lake in a couple of weeks.

Kathy and I do plan to attend the reunion (good Lord willing and the creek don't rise) which time of year depending, we're considering turning into a cross country trip. We realize there is life East of  Verdi, Calif. but it appears mostly sagebrush and bunnies until you hit Salt Lake. (Reno doesn't count)  So, the travel is somewhat daunting.

Hopefully it's understood we're joking.  We'll be there because I wouldn't miss a Habich bongo solo for anything.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Hey Dick Ross, it's great to see you on here. Tell us more about what you're doing.

Jerry, I know what you mean. No matter what, I hope you and Kathy will make it to the 50th. Only problem with Jack and the bongos, the price of admission might skyrocket. I hear he charges a pretty penny for those concerts. Maybe you could bring your guitar and we can get Dave Gaston there and you guys can do a jam session. That would be sweet!!!

Happy birthday Judy!!!

Jack Habich

Did somebody say bongos???  Very  timely.  We were just putting the band back together last Saturday night, Jerry, and would have been delighted to have had you jam with us.

Of course, there might have been a problem with my agent, Mike "Owenie the Lawyer" Whelan, who might have tried to get a piece of you as well.

But after a couple of pops, we had him pretending like he was singing into a microphone, so why worry?.  With him was his wife Cheryl, one of their friends, another Cheryl named Turner who played photographer between busting some moves of her own , and a guy we know as Mark Hitzner.  Spotted in the audience were Dave and Sandy Holt, Mike Ehrmantraut and friend, '65 grad Joanne Zabel and husband, and a nice real estate lady named Lister and her husband.

But me, I'm very serious about my work.

Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Mel,

I remember Dave having a great voice and from the pictures it appears Jack is a serious musician as well.  Remember, I was just a rocker.

Jack,

Looks like bongos and congas in your set up.  Very nice and Ricky Ricardo would be proud.

Cheryl Turner (Hitzner)

We all had soooo much fun!  Jack is back!!!!!!  As you can see,, we all got into the action at Jim's.  Can't wait for a repeat performance.

The 50th reunion for the Class of 1963 is coming up in September. With so many being in town that week, Mary Selk wants to have all of us to sing to residents at Westminster Village. You didn't have to be in A Cappella nor in the Class of 1963 for this event. Please let me know if you can make it. You don't have to make the rehearsals to sing but she of course would rather you did. Mary Selk is 92 and this may be our last chance to honor her.

Here is what she wants to do: all singers from years 1960 to 1966 are invited to participate. Please let me know if you can make it. Some of you have already told me you can't but in order to omit you from the email, it takes a lot of extra work for me and with the reunion around the corner, I just don't have the time.

Thursday Sept. 26 at 7:30pm will be a rehearsal.

Friday Sept. 27 at 1:30pm will be another rehearsal.

Friday Sept. 27 at 3pm will be our performance.

We will be singing "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, No Man is an Island,  The Battle Hymn of the Republic, and Sing Noel". After that we will sing in unison, songs from Music Man and Brigadoon. Word sheets will be given out for there.

Everything takes place at Westminster Village Community Room

Please make a special effort to do this. Mary Selk is and always a special lady and great teacher. Some of us owe her big time. :)

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Milan,

Several of us had a BBQ with Mary a week ago and she is very excited about this gathering of former students. She is one of the most incredible people I know and is VERY active in the retirement community. Glad you are going to be part of this, it means a lot to her.

Photo I took of Mary Selk for my series of Artist's Portraits.

Kinda funny how this got started. Mike Hargesheimer was visiting a relative at Westminster and saw Mary. They had a nice talk and Hargie mentioned our reunion and gettng a few of us together and singing for the residents. Well you know Mary, she took the ball and now we have this shindig going on. Mary Selk doesn't and never did do anything half way. A truly amazing lady. Many of us owe her big time. This came at a very busy time for me but  I am pretty caught up now so I am beating the bushes. Please folks, Mary is 92, this is our chance to pay back and it will make us all feel great. All rehearsals and performance will be at the Community Center at Westminster Village. We need your help !!!!!!!!!!!

I need help with the BHS Loyalty Song. At first I thought it was to the tune of Halls of Ivy and now I am sure it isn't. Does anyone have the music to our lotalty song? Halls of Ivy works up on the first several notes. Our song B H S, all three notes go down then jumps up on "is always loyal". I think? Help !!!!!!!

09/04/13 08:50 AM #4024

Helen Nicolaysen (Thompson)

Wouldn't it be great if someone would video the musical presentation with Mary Selk, to be shown at our 50th Class Reunion for those of us those of us who are unable to attend?!  I know I'd love to see it and I bet there might be some others who may like to see it too?!?

09/04/13 11:17 AM #4025

Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Isn't the loyalty song, like so many others, just (pick a tune) 3 verus of blah, blah etc. followed at the end with.....alma mater?  Perhaps that was college.  It's been too long.  Sorry, couldn't resist it.

09/04/13 12:06 PM #4026

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Milan, I can't tell if Jerry is "ON" something or "ONTO" something here, but what he says almost makes sense. We went through this for our class reunion several years ago and (wouldn't you know?) it was Mary Selk who had all the information. I can't remember if it was to Halls of Ivy, but if it is, it sure is awkward. Mary is probably the only person with the answer to your question.

'Keep on Pickin' Jerry., just like Mr. Natural 'Keeps on Truckin'.

BHS LOYALTY SONG

B.H.S. is always loyal

To the violet's bright hue.

We will wave our colors royal;

To the purple we'll be true.

We will raise our triumph high, boys

Over orange, red, or green.

We will show all beholders

That the purple is the queen.

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Mel, I saw where you were wanting people to tell what their summer was like.  And, you mentioned my name.  I have been off the site for quite some time.  Sorry.  I went back several pages and I can't possibly comment on all that I read.  But, I would like to say a couple things.

Today is a great day.  It's Sept. and the Cubs are still in the race.  Only 22 out with 25 to play.  They're so great.  And, the Cardinals are no longer in first.  TOO BAD.

Oh, Mr. Plummer, what has happened to the Giants.  A HUGE dissapointment.  The 49'ers will make you feel better.

Habich, I can handle the Bongos, but sunglasses INSIDE went out in the 90's.  You reminded me of this guy who played the drums at this joint down on State Street, Chicago, back in the late 60's.  Wait, was that you Jack.

Stan, it looks like the TIDE will roll again this year.  But, it's a long year you know.

I did really enjoy the last pics that were put up.  Just Great.

Wel Mel and all, down here in Texxxxxas, our summer starts in April, due to the heat.  Arnie, yes Palmer, wanted me to come play a round at Augusta before the tournament.  So, Arnie, Jack, Me, and some rich hacker they knew played a round of golf.  Then, I had to leave and get to Chicago to help the Bears management with draft day.  Then it was back to Dallas to meet up with Mark Cuban.  Very few people know that Mark is a huge Wiffle Ball player.  That didn't go too well.  He practically lives in a castle.  We played in this huge room with now funiture.  I beat him something like 17-3 in 7 innings.  That wasn't so bad, but he struck out 15 times.  Then I told him I had a buddy named Jetton who was even better than me.  I did tell him that I thought he was great on Shark Tank.  But then I also told him that I thought the NBA SUCKED.  Poof, I was out the door.  Oh well.  I met up with Dennis, (Rodman), and we talked about how his construction company was doing here in the Metroplex.  The Rebounder, that's what I call him. wanted me to go to N. Korea with him.  But, I said no.  Being around one crazy guy was enough for me.  However, I did spend a month in Japan trying to tell those lunatics how f----d up their Nuclear Program was and now they want to put a band-aid on the Fukushima plant.

Anyway Mel, I spent the summer teaching Grand-Kids - One how to ride a bike. Both how to hit a golf ball.  I took on a massive landscape project in the back yard.  What was I thinking at 67.  I didn't try that tree removal like some people.  Almost done though.  Still helping my Son at the facility off and on.  My golf has suffered due to several Mohs surgeries.

I did see that some of our classmates have had some stressful situations, and I hated to hear about that.  I had one myself that fortunately till now, I never experienced.  One of my old neighbors of 9 or so years who I first met when I moved here and was just one of the greatest guys anyone would meet, committed suicide a month or so ago.  He had a super family.  He was very financially set, a wonderful wife, 3 great kids.  All college grads with good jobs.  He and his sons raced dragsters.  He was from Hinsdale, Il, so we really had lot in common to talk about.  He was one of the greatest guys any one could know.  But, I guess that just shows that Demons live in places we least expect.

I'll try to stay on the site more frequently, even though that may not be a good thing to some.  Ha!

09/04/13 05:35 PM #4028

Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Rod, what a summer.  One of the best entries to date.  I'm still laughing.

Giants?  First to worst unbelievable but still a fan.  Kathy is packing away her big orange Panda hat, however. It might stay in mothballs longer than we think.

If Kap stays healthy, Niners will do fine, perhaps even great.  If hurt, well Harbaugh is a great coach, even if he did coach Stanford. (Which is the college team to watch this season, darn it.  And quit chuckling Holly,)

09/05/13 08:54 AM #4029

Jack Habich

Thanks for the tip about the sunglasses, Rod.  I haven’t been to Texas lately, so I kind of lost my compass.  I assume the State Troopers still wear them though.

The question now is what to do about Gaston.  He still wears the indoor shades even though he moved to LA.  Does the cowboy hat give him a pass, or do I need to send him a memo?

09/05/13 09:17 AM #4030

Jack Habich

But wait Rod, wife just got back from NYC where she said entertainers were wearing indoor sunglasses at The Blue Note.......even though they weren't blind. Even some in the audience she said...Asians and everything. What to do for my next gig?

09/05/13 12:08 PM #4031

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Jerry, I'm pretty sure your 49'ers are going to be right at the top, barring injuries, at the end of the year.  The great thing about being a Cub Fan is that they are so predictable.  They trade the guys who are half way good for nothing.  They give the guys who aren't worth their weight a ton of money, (et: Rizzo).  They have no picture with double didgit wins, no all star player, and yet they made it past Labor Day before they are out of the running.  What a year.  What a year.  I still love my Bears, but as always, or at least the past 20 years, I watch every Blackhawk game I can.  They are one of the best managed teams in the NHL.

Now Jack.  Trends start in Ca., not N.Y..  I don't see anyone wearing sunglasses in that picture either.  And Asians, I don't pay any attention to them.  Down here they run around following each other like sheep, giberring all the time.  They just hope Americans keep eating donuts, get their clothes dry cleaned, and keep taking pictures.

In Texas, State Troopers are about the same as local police  They seem to be the last at the scene and the first to leave. Now Texas Rangers.  Those are the big gun, big hat, sunglass boys.  You don't mess with them.  If you're in trouble, and they show up, you are really in trouble.  Especially if you piss'em off, and that don't take much.

Moving on to Gaston.  Jack, you know I love Davey, but he would have to make a few changes.  The aviator glasses gotta go.  Get some thin dark glasses.  The hat is ok, but he needs a gold band.  He would need to get some really nice roper boots.  A nice touch would be silver spurs with a short gold knob.  That would get him into the classy places, but if he's going to a real Cowboy Joint, he would never make it like that.  He'd be like a june-bug at a frog convention.

For your next gig Jack, here is what I think.  Get that tan going.  Get a really bright shirt, maybe red, yellow, baby blue combo.  Let your hair grow really long and put it in a pony tail.  Get some bling for the fingers.  Then we introduce you as  "Laid Back Jack", the Smoothest Bongo Man in the Land.  Yes Yes,

Gotta go, will return later!

09/05/13 05:22 PM #4032

Jack Habich

Appreciate the advice, Rod.  I actually threw out all my self help books.

About The Blue Note, I guess Dee was in a roped-off section of squares.....you know, the types that didn't have the guts to wear indoor sunglasses.  Once the performers came on stage with their shades though, the whole squares section got more relaxed.

Now on to David.  You've helped me so much that I feel an obligation to pass it on to him.  Here he's got a different look with the same indoor shades theme.  Looks like he may have different, slighlty smaller shades......but he may be OK with

that anyway, since they seem to be wearing bigger shades up North and on the West Coast now.  To my untrained eye, it looks like he may be able to play the bongos.  Any thoughts?

09/05/13 08:52 PM #4033

Cheryl Turner (Hitzner)

I think the shades are cool and becoming to both you and David.  Inside or out.
