Thanks Victor.   I did well......wasn't quite sure of Timex but I guessed it correctly.

One very late night in Las Vegas........I witnessed, with many others, seeing Red S. having a fit of anger at the craps table.  He was on the table kicking all of the chips off!   I will never forget that!

Milan Jackson

I  just received word that Fred Walker passed away this morning. God bless the Walker family.

Mel...

You forgot to mention Milan... he's on here ,too!  I'm still around.  Was gone most of June, but back here for the July heat and mosquitoes.

I do read the Message Forum regularly, but usually don't have much to say.  I hope to make it down for the August mini-reunion, unless something comes up that I don't know about yet.

Max

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Max, I was just trying to rouse everyone and know that Milan is always taking notice of what we're doing here. Sadly his new post about Fred Walker is part of how he helps keep us active and informed without dominating the conversation. If I could, I'd list the whole Class of '64 and invite them to bring this site back to life. I guess not everyone feels that way until we get news of another tragic loss.

Hope you were having fun while you were away. AND...oh boy, I look forward to seeing you in Aug. Great news that you'll be there.

R.I.P. Fred.

Mel...

I'm sad to hear of Fred's passing.  He lived around the corner from me when we were in school.  He and I had our first 'double date' together in 5th grade!  We took Vicki Daugherty and Marsha Hudson to the movie and stopped at Velvet Freeze on the way home for ice cream.  Walked over and picked them up, walked uptown (or downtown) to the theater and walked back.  Would kids even think of doing all of that walking today?!

I went from kindergarten all through school with Fred Walker. He lived across the street from Bent School.  Does anyone have his obituary available? I'd like to know where he ended up living and a little bit more about the life he lived?

07/29/13 06:08 PM #3942

Judy Tynan (Danielson)

Sorry to hear of the loss of Fred Walker.  I also went to school with him at Bent.  If I remember correctly he was the 1st boy that I had ever danced with.  Square dancing I think.  very, very long time ago.  RIP Fred, my thoughts are with your family.

Terry (Max) Maxwell

Did Fred Walker move from Bent to Lincoln School in 5th grade?  He lived on the corner of Summit and Miller streets, across from Miller Park, when I knew him.  Ron Umbright, from our class, lived across the street and I lived in the next block.

A couple years back Fred found me on this website and contacted me by e-mail to see if I knew how he could get ahold of Ron Umbright.  I got him in contact with Ron at the time.  He has written and published at least one book that I know of.  Not sure what else he did.

Regina (Sue) Petersen (Koppenhoefer)

This is a picture of our sixth grade class from Bent School, and I notice that Fred Walker is not in the photo that was taken at the end of the school year at Steve Chesney's house.  So Max, I think you must be correct that he move to your school.

Regina (Sue) Petersen (Koppenhoefer)

I realize I should have included names with the picture I just posted.

1st row:  (left to right). Mary Jones, Donitta Watson, Vicky Weatherly, Regina (Sue) Petersen, Marian Black, Carol McCauley,  and Judy Tynan

2nd row:  Helen Nicolaysen, Leola Guler, Miss Bottomley, Sandra Huff, Dennis Saunders, and David Goodpasture

3rd row:  Sammy Green, Gregory Langhoff, Donald Brown, Terry Hankins, and David Coit

Up top is Steve Chesney

Regina (Sue) Petersen (Koppenhoefer)

(I should have gotten my thoughts together and only written one post -- I'll blame it on age.)

Max,  I'm curious about the book you mentioned that Fred Walker wrote.  Do you happen to know the title or anything else about it?

07/30/13 06:04 PM #3947

Judy Tynan (Danielson)

Sue, thank you so much for posting that picture,  really brings back memories of grade school. There are few kids in the picture that I don't remember and of course I don't remember going to that party at Steve Chestney's house, but there I am in the front row.  Go figure.  Could it be our age????

07/31/13 10:19 AM #3948

Terry (Max) Maxwell

Sue...

Sorry, I can't remember the name of the book at all.  Wish I could help you out, but it's been a few years ago that he told me about it.  It seems that he wrote it under the name Frederick Walker, but don't hold me to that either.

Judy...

In that picture, it looks like you and Sue were both practicing to be holding a smart phone in later years!

Jack Habich

Cheryl T. sent this along........this is either Kindergarten or 1st Grade at Jefferson School.  I seem to rember this picture previously, as I do Sue K.'s, but some things still work the second time around.

07/31/13 05:59 PM #3950

Helen Nicolaysen (Thompson)

Okay Jack name the people in your picture. This is a test to see how good your memory is?!

07/31/13 10:07 PM #3951

Jack Habich

Actually, at the time this picture was taken, I was in a mountainous region far far away......but.......in the first row, I recognize Jack Walker right away, then Gene Zoll and maybe Dick Ross second from the end.  Second row, there is Diane Gardner, maybe Gail Hemstead, Cheryl Turner and Judy McLean.  Guy on the end looks very familiar but can't quite place him.  Maybe Judy, Cheryl or others can identify the rest.

07/31/13 11:16 PM #3952

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Sue, I did a little work on this. Maybe it will help jog Jack's memory and improve his eyesight. smiley

Crazy about the saddle shoes, polk-a-dot dress and bobby socks.

Regina (Sue) Petersen (Koppenhoefer)

Mel,  Thank You!!!  Awesome!!!

Cheryl Turner (Hitzner)

In the Jefferson School picture - standing from left to right, Diane Gardner, can't remember the next two, Patty Edwards, Gail Hempstead, Janet Alikonis, Cheryl Turner, Judy McLean, can't remember the next person and Tim Haney.  Sitting down is can't remember the first three, Jack Walker, can't remember the next one, someone Guthrie, Dick Ross and can't remember the last one.  Cindy Carey is by the lamb.

08/02/13 02:18 PM #3955

Judith (Judy) McLean (Wilder)

Cheryl & Jack,

The third girl in the back is Pat Locker and the girl between me and Tim Haney is Chole Dell Michaels.  She lived on McLean St.  between Front and Grove but moved in 3rd. grade.  Pat Locker moved in Junior High.  They lived two doors from me on Front St.  The girl next to the lamb is Marie Hill and next to her is Alan Schwartz.  Cindy Carey didn't move into our school district until later than 1st grade.  I'll have to look closer at the front row not sure who all is in there.

08/02/13 10:31 PM #3956

Jack Habich

Judy and Cheryl.....I'm guessing my guess about Gene Zoll (the guy in the white shirt next to Jack Walker) was not correct.

I wasn't there, but it just looked like the face that would grow up to be Gene Zoll.

I did go to Jefferson for about 5 weeks in 1955 though, but don't remember too much about it.

08/05/13 07:40 AM #3957

Cheryl Turner (Hitzner)

Judy - thanks for your input.  I knew the faces were familiar but couldn't come up with the names.  Totally wrong about Cindy Carey being by the lamb!

Marie Hill was mentioned in one of the pictures. Is she the one that later on went to Trinity? If so we ran around together while in High School. Does anyone know her and where she is now?

08/06/13 06:59 PM #3959

Judith (Judy) McLean (Wilder)

Helen,

Marie Hill might have gone to high school at Trinity.  I didn't know where she went after grade school.  She lived  on E. Jefferson street a couple blocks east of the old high school (our Junior High) across the street from the play ground.  I always wondered where she went to.
