I remember Lowell Gregory and his wife ran the snack bar at O'Neil Park during softball games.

Milan, could you please post Steve Jeton's address to make it more accessable for anyone interested in donating money for Bobby Singletary's Obituary? You already do so much for our class. Maybe we should contribute to you also?!?! Spose?

Here is one of the coffee ground media paintings my Mom got from Bob in 1962 or 63.  It is a fairly large painting and I am not at home right now so can't measure it.  I will post a copy of a smaller one Mom gave me for high school graduation.  I hope you enjoy seeing it.

Milan:

Also, an alternative might be for a Pantagraph reporter to do an article on Bobby and his work and include his funerial information.   Just thinking.

Bob was creamated and there was no funeral. Steve doesn't have his address in his profile and knowing this message board isn't password protected, there is no way I would put his address on here. You might contact Steve personally for that info. I just got a call and a donor will pay the entire $70. You have some very generous people in this group. Appreciate them.

Thanks to the mysterious donor. I was all ready to contribute. Milan, whenever the call comes, it seems someone is there.

Thanks Holly for the photo of Bob's trees and Sue for that totally unexpected surprise of his first painting. You guys are a great joy. I went to Sandra's Raiders page and read her School Story. It was an absolute pleasure, especially her story about Miss Selk and conducting the choir. Take a look if you haven't already.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FAITH!!!

Bob touched a lot of people mostly through his talent. In his own way, Bob died a rich man.

It isn't really a secret donor. I will tell you soon. You may be surprised but if you knew this guy, you wouldn't be. A very giving person. This is a generous group. Too bad you don't have a fund to cover something like funeral donations. The class of 1963 donates to the classmates charity of choice. We keep it at $25 for fairness and also for our budget. We went pretty far for Jim Anderson but those donations were earmarked for Jim Anderson. Maybe a slippery slope but some people just meant extra to so many. My opinion is that Sue fell into the category. Just a guest's opinion.

The check is on the way. But everyone has the right to change their minds. So until I get it, I will not go into detail. So if the person does change his mind, he won't have to be embarrassed. I don't think this is going to happen. It isn't his first time to show me his generosity.

"Maybe a slippery slope but some people just meant extra to so many. My opinion is that Sue fell into the category. Just a guest's opinion."

Actually, the Sue donation was a loan from the class treasury, at a period when time was of the essence and everyone was without direction as to where to get flowers etc.  That loan was largely repaid by several donors near the end, with Mary Giermann making up the lion's share.

There were many e-mails that came in during that period that showed approval of what we had done, but also warned of the slippery slope you mention.  The general consensus, and my own opinion, was that you do not have favorite people with other people's money.  The loan resolved it.

Jim Anderson went through so much with cancer while an active member of our site. It was like we were going through it with him. Toward the end, several of us decided we would raise money and plant a tree in his honor for the fight he was going through. He died before we got it done. So it became a memorial. We planted two other trees for the class. It was actually up to the donors to cover all costs but as you say, there was a loan involved which was re-paid immediately. Would we do it again? I hope it never occurs again. I am sure you feel the same. Notice I didn't answer my own question? :)

I have not been on this website very much, but felt I wanted to add a note when I heard of Bob Singletary's death. Bob and I were never in any classes together as far as I remember, so I didn't know him well; but, when I saw his tree (on display in the student center) painted with coffee grounds it made an impression on me that I never forgot. Whenever I heard his name mentioned over the years that picture always came to my mind. The memory of it became fuzzy over time and I don't remember if the picture Holly posted  was that particular one or if it could have been the smaller one. For some reason, over the years, I just remembered "a tree" and being so taken that coffee was the medium for such a lovely picture. It was such a wonderful surprise to see his work again!  What a great legacy to be remembered for beautiful art that  people will continue to enjoy.

Jerry Dehart gave the money for Bob's obituary. It isn't the first time Jerry was generous. I am proud to be a guest of this class.

Milan, I didn't know that about Lowell Gregory.  He builit a lot of duplex apartment buildings around town.  He flew his own plane.  Thank you Jerry for the obiturary for Bob.  He did so much in his life, it didn't seem right that nothing was put in the paper.  I had the same thought that Linda had-that maybe a reporter could write an article about him.  Jerry's Mom and  Bob's Mom were sisters.  My Mom went to school with Jerry's Mom, also.

WOW! All these years have passed by and I was never aware that Jerry and the Singletary's were related! Jerry, your heart is HUGE! Thank you for coming forward with your very thoughtful and heartfelt gift! We have the greatest class anyone could ever ask for! GOOD and GREAT PEOPLE came from the Class of 64!

On another note........................Jerry and Gail Hempsted and I all 3 share the same birthday! We're all connected in some way or another. It's a small small world!

Received a bunch of pictures from Gills on my Android while I was out watching Bears.  Not too good at working on that, especially without reading glasses.  Lost an e-mail from Julie Hart while I was putzing around, but was able to respond to David Long.  Here are a couple of pictures now, and more later.

Below are David and Dorothy Long (Martin Short was not available) with Diane Gardner.

Would it be possible to let us know when an Obituary is publised for Bobby Singletary? I keep checking the on-line Pantagraph and haven't seen anything at this point! Thanks so much!

When it hits the Pantagraph, it will be posted on here. I promise. Helen, it won't even be turned in to the paper until at least tomorrow. So Tuesday at the very earliest.

If you study this picture, you'll see David Holt.  If you look really hard, you might recognize Mary Giermann.

But one can't help but wonder if alcohol was involved, as Max gives the photographer the finger.

I might also request that next time somebody bring a regular camera, so we can recognize the characters.  It's been about 50 years for some people, you know.
