A few days ago there was a pending death announcement in The Pantagraph for Dennis Saunders, age 74. Does anybody know if it is the same Dennis that was in our class? They must not be putting an obituary in the paper for him. I had seen a Dennis Saunders on Facebook, and had looked at his picture and saw no resemblence to our Dennis. But I never asked him he was in the class of '64.

Hope everybody has made it thru the ice and snow storm we had in BLoomington/Normal. It was suppose to get to 37 today but didn't even reach 30, that I know of. So the ice and snow are hanging on. I lost a couple of brances over the weekend and today lost another one. But none have hit my home or neighbor's and I haven't lost power. Thank you, God.

Marvin, hope everything is ok with you at the lake, with all of your trees. My Son has a lot of trees that surround his home and his yard looks lke a bomb went off. But nothhing has hit his home, either, so a lot to be thankful for.

Happy 2021 to everybody and pray this is a better year.

SANDY ... speaking of storms and trees down ... we had one fall in a storm about 4 weeks ago the top (fortunately brittle) branches hitting the edge of the roof and fortunately only scrapped the house , ripping the screens but not breaking any window glass and cracking and chipping much of the siding. Still arguing with Allstate to replace the full wall of siding instead of only miscellaneous panels where the chips are... replacement panels will not match original. Blessed no significant damage to cause penetrating damage!

Sorry to see trees down. It can be a real job to clean up the yard afterward!

Although I would like to go to my favorite restaurant for Huevos Rancheros this morning, I am going downstairs and make 1 egg with a tablespoon of salsa. (I would really like to include bacon, toast and jam, but I have to cool it on the amount of food I eat and realize that I am not running that amount of calories off on a daily basis.)

No matter what meal I have before me....................I never quit wishing for FUDGE!

This big branch fell into my fenced in part of my yard. I have had a couple more good size ones fall.
These are Lilac bushes. Hope the one that is touching the ground doesn't break.

I just rode thru Miller Park and the trees are beautiful. Not really too many branches down out there, considering how many trees are out there. I don't see that the trees are melting, but my driveway is half way clear. And I didn't do anything to it. It is really foggy in town today. The sun was suppose to shine, and it has tried a couple of times, but hasn't made it thru the fog, yet.

Jim, I'm glad that tree didn't do any more damage to your home. I hope you win with your insurance company. I agree, it won't look good if just replace some of the siding. Trees are beautiful, but they do scare me. I had one taken down a couple of years ago. My neighbor kept telling me it wasn't dead. But when they took it down, they did find a lot of it was. And if it had fallen, it could have fallen on my neighbor's home. This one that lost a few branches with this storm, I think I'll have taken down this year. It always loses some branches even with rain and wind. I really don't get shade from it so I think it's time to get rid of it.

Sandy and other locals. Elaine and I have been to Ewing Park the past two days, covering all three sections of it. It's ashame we've had so much tree damage but ..... it is incredibly beautiful over there. The snow and ice covered grounds and limbs .... sorry, but all the damage lying on the groundl .... just a spectacular visual.

Elaine took a bunch of pics on her phone but they really don't do justice. You need your wide angle eyeballs.

I don't how it will look today. It's below freezing but I am seeing some sloppiness in my neighborhood. Anybody who is up to tromping through the snow and enjoys nature should see it. There are a number of blocked paths throughout the wooded areas but you can navigate around them.

I imagine Funks Grove and the Merwin Preserve along the Mackinaw just north of town ought to be similar experiences. Might check 'em out today if time.

I guess we got off easier in southern Illinois. We just got sleet and freezing rain. We have experienced snow flurries almost every day since the ice almost a week ago, but it is not accumulating--just aggravating.

Lol. That was not a hitchhiking lesson. If it were, I would have been the student. There are few joys in the world greater than sharing a moment of celebration with a grandchild. Wouldn't it be fun if you and other classmates shared their moments of exhaltation with their own grandkids? Jim Rookus and others have done that regularly. For those of us lucky enough to have such treasured ones in our lives, we want to tell the whole world about it. My granddaughter doesn't know it, but she has helped me survive Covid, political upheaval, economic stress, social unrest, and global threats this past year, which she, thankfully, is too young to grasp. If her "thumbs up" means anything to me, it is that these kids will help make this a better world. So, maybe you are right, she has now figured out that a hitchhiking thumb will get us to our destination and make this world a better place. Thumbs up everyone.

Saw this picture on Facebook this morning from the McLean County History pictures. The boys are Lyle Dawson and Richard Dalton. The caption didn't say which boy was Lyle. I'm wondering if this is "our" Lyle Dawson? Does anybody know if Lyle lived in the Mill and Lee Street area?
