Well I had my surgery yesterday and I’m home.  My right hip still hurts, but I think thats from falling so much.

Thinking of Thanksgiving 50 years ago and those that can’t be with their loved ones today because of their service to our country  wishing all of you a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!

Michael (Mike) Franks

Thanks for the photo David. I studied it for a very long time. I wanted to respond, but I just could not come up with the right words. I know what was in the hearts of everyone of those men. I think that I have a very good idea of what their conversation was all about. We were just a few years out of high school and in places that we had never heard of. It saddens me to know that our sons and daughters must serve today, 50 years later. That picture could have had 100's of captions and everyone would be accurate. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Remember, we must defend what we cherish and that it comes with a sacrifice.

Very well written response Mike.

People that have not experienced active duty military life or war do not always fully understand or fully appreciate the extent of sacrifices and hardships of those that have served. Dave's picture is a great depiction of the mental anguish as well as the poor living conditions so many have endured not to mention the dangers they face. Remembering those that have put or are putting their lives on the line, relinquishing prime years of their lives to preserve our way of life is soooo important. They are all hero's! Thanks for the post Dave.

Max is a genius! I weighed in at 180 pounds before Thanksgiving. Then on Thanksgiving I remembered Max's advice and set my scales back 10 pounds. After gorging on a luscious Thanksgiving Day feast I later got on the scales and only weighed 176 pounds. Thanks to Max I lost 4 pounds and feel great.

I noticed Tom Homer updated his profile a few days ago and was glad to see he is actively participating in this fun class website. Tom's update caused me to think, as I occasionally do (that is supposed to be funny), about our website activity. The site statistics show that 30 people have logged-in in the last 30 days and 93 in the past year. While the Message Forum does not reflect that level of activity, It makes happy to know that many are checking in.

Remember the Saturday Dec 1 Mini-Reunion at Tony Roma's (refer to Home Page) and plan to come!

Michael (Mike) Franks

Marvin, you made reference to the hardships and sacrifices that us G I 's were forced to endure. In David's photo those poor guy's were eating C's! Those things were terrible! Remember the ham & lima beams? We couldn't even give those things away to the Gooks. The chocolate tasted like wax and you had better not forget your P-38! (opener) The cigarettes were good for trade. The peaches were OK. Oh! How I used to cherish a "care package" from home! Speaking of that---May God bless all of those loved ones that never forgot us!  We would share our care packages with each other, and home-made chocolate chip cookies were like GOLD!   We were all BROTHERS! Now perhaps one can understand how the picture that David posted, could have had so many captions? Support our loved ones!  IT REALLY DOES MATTER!

Well said, Mike!  Gotta love those Cs.  We did get a hot meal for Christmas, though.

Just really thinking about the guys that are now overseas, missing their families and loved ones, eating MREs.

All the best!

22 days and counting to Grandson #4!  We'll wave as we speed by on the way back to Chicago.  Cheap gas at the Pilot station on Market Street - $2.09 gal on Sunday when we stopped for Fuel, Coffee, snacks.

For those who remember him, Garth Golden and his wife Debbie were there. We shared lots of fun memories of trouble we got into in grade school. Somehow missed getting pics of John Brown and Dianne Gardner.
