Born to Guy O. and Gertie A. Butcher Clark, Ellen married Samuel Rolland Wilcox on June 19, 1935, in Monmouth. He died Nov. 4, 1991. 

Two brothers also preceded her in death.

She received a bachelor's degree and master's degree in business from Western Illinois University.

She was a teacher for 25 years, retiring 1976. She was living in Macomb at the time of her death.
