Our Principal G. Elwood Wheeler passed away January 29, 2009.

George E. Wheeler BLOOMINGTON -- George Elwood Wheeler, 91, Madison, Wis., formerly of the Bloomington and Streator areas, passed away Thursday (Jan. 29, 2009).

He was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Kankakee, the son of Stephen and Jennie Crichton Wheeler. George married Betty Wolfe on Dec. 25, 1942, in Kankakee. George was a music teacher and administrator in the Bloomington and Streator school districts before retiring in 1976 to Madison, Wis. They moved to Sun City Center, Fla., living there for 15 years before returning to Madison in 2004.

Mr. Wheeler is survived by his wife, Betty, Madison; three children, Stephen Wheeler, Madison; Janet (Mark) Smukler, Cleveland, Ohio; and Ali (Merlin) Voss, Middleton, Wis.; two grandchildren, Kate (Chris) Wolfe and Michael Smukler, both of Boston; and one great-grandchild, Claudia Wolfe. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
