BLOOMINGTON - Helen Elizabeth Shippy, 86, Bloomington, died at 11:25 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 13, 2006) at Heritage Manor, Bloomington.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

She was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Fayette County, to Ben and Cathryne Anderson Shippy. They preceded her in death.

She taught business education for 35 years in several Illinois High Schools, including Paw Paw, Knoxville, LeRoy, Normal Community and the last 25 years at Bloomington High School. She retired from teaching in June 1979.

Miss Shippy graduated from Stephen Decatur High School and received a bachelor's and master's degrees from Illinois State University. She also attended Northwestern University and the universities of Illinois and Montana.

Since 1959, Miss Shippy was a charter member of the Beta Iota Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary organization of women teachers. She was also a member of the Bloomington Photo-Colorists and Peoria Color Camera clubs.
