The memorial service for Mary Jo Ivens, 84, of 509 N. Adelaide St. Normal, a retired Bloomington Junior High School teacher, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home, Bloomington.
 
The Rev. David A. Robins will officiate. A private family committal service will be at Park Hill Cemetery. She was cremated.
 
The family will greet friends following the memorial service.
 
Mrs. Ivens died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday (May 28, 1991) at Brokaw Hospital, Normal, where she had been a patient three days.
 
She was born Jan. 18, 1907, in St. Clair County, Mich., the daughter of Frederick W. and Mary Muhlitner Allington. She married Howard J. Ivens June 30, 1932. He died July 27, 1968.
 
Surviving are one daughter, Jo Ann Laible, Charleston; one son, Stephen H. Ivens, River Vale, N.J.; one sister, Faythe Whitney, St. Paul, Minn.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
 
Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
 
Mrs. Ivens was a member of Unitarian Church, Bloomington, the University Women’s Club and Normal History Club. She was a former member and served on the board of directors at McLean County Historical Society, the Morgan-Washington Home and Untied Nations Association. She taught school in Buchanan and Ypsilanti, Mich. high schools, at the University of Oregon at Eugene and at Bloomington Junior High School from 1947 until retiring in 1962.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unitarian Church or Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Foundation.
