Phyllis L. Bowman, 78, of Proctor Endowment Home, Peoria, a Pontiac native, retired teacher and widow of the Rev. Forrest H.O. Bowman, rector of Episcopal Churches in Pontiac and Bloomington, died may 30 at her residence.
 
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Bloomington, the Rev. Richard Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Funk’s Grove Cemetary.
 
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Wilton Mortuary, Peoria, has charge of arrangements.
 
Mrs. Bowman was born Oct. 19, 1903, a daughter of Iral B. and Josephine J. Kopf Johns. She married the Rev. Bowman June 25, 1932 in Chicago. He died Dec. 17, 1967.
 
Surviving is a brother, Iral Brown Johns, Marblehead, Mass.
 
Mrs. Bowman was a Knox College, Galesburg, graduate and a high school teacher for many years. Her husband was a rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Pontiac, from 1930 to 1937 and chaplain of the correctional centers at Pontiac and Dwight. They came to Bloomington April 11, 1945 and served the Bloomington parish until Mr. Bowman’s death. St. Matthews Episcopal Church was built at 1920 E. Oakland Ave., Bloomington, during that time.
 
Mrs. Bowman was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church and associate of Sisters of St. Mary’s. She was a member of Retired Teachers and Classical Language Associations.
