BLOOMINGTON — Randolph C. Simmons, 64, Bloomington, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 14, 2010) at his residence.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Cremation rites have been accorded.

He was born June 18, 1945, in Bloomington, the son of Raymond and Stella Byrd Simmons.

He married Iris Skinner on June 16, 2001, in Bloomington.

Surviving are his wife, Iris Simmons, Bloomington; two daughters, Christy (Ted) Perschall, Heyworth, and Heidi (Tim Beauchamp) Simmons, Bloomington; two stepdaughters, Laurie Lewis and Anna Butler, both of DuQuoin; and one stepson, Gabriel (Bettina Cox) Lewis, DuQuoin.

Also surviving are his grandchildren, Samantha (Andy Uhe) Jordan, Kalyn Beauchamp, Brianna Perschall and Quinn Perschall; and his stepgrandchildren, Broady Butler, Kleo Butler, Clementine Jones and Naomi Lewis. He is also survived by two brothers, Doug (Mickey Goff) Simmons, Lincoln, and Tim (Margie) Simmons, Bloomington; and one sister, Francie (Jim) Vance, Pinellas Park, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, and was also expecting one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Stella Byrd Simmons.

Randolph served his country in the U.S. Navy for 13½ years. He proudly served in the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Award and the Distinguished Service Certificate while serving in Vietnam.

Later, he worked for Pantagraph Printing and Stationery as a shipping foreman for 25 years, retiring in 2007.

He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, working on home projects and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He had a unique sense of humor that always kept his family laughing.
