Milan,

I think I would speak for most everyone, that with all you have given and contributed, to the class of "64", you are one of our own.  YOU are a SPECIAL person.  Hopefully, one day before too long, I will be able to meet you and thank you personally.

At this stage of my life, I pretty much do what I like. No thanks is necessary. I love doing what I do. I do need to get back to looking for missing classmates. I will need everyone's help with that. Look at the missing list and let me know if you know anything about those people. Your info can be many years old and the slightest thing can help big time. Several times I was able to find someone because one person remembered the name of the sister of who we were actually trying to find. It all helps. Knowing the parents names or where they worked while the classmate was in school is a big clue. HELP. :)

Steve Jetton

Just getting ready to make a run to the bank with the latest donations.  Wow!  Have to say I am awed by the generosity and enthusiam this class has shown.   We've taken in a lot more than we expected - I am sure Jack and Sandy will back me up on that.

I need to let you that I am taking off for the rest of the week and next week - so any donations that you mail me will be sitting securely in the post office.  An alternative is to send to Sandy McHugh.  Darn it, I don't have her address in front me.  I'll look and post again.

As donations continue to trickle in, we got another big bang today. Mel Theobald is our fourth $100 donor. Appreciate it Mel, as we do all donors.

The response of this class has been astounding.
You will soon have a more specific accounting of where we are. We have enough for several years of this website, with enough left  (more than $1,000) for a record class treasury. We are no longer broke. I hesitate to give detailed numbers while donations still come in so as not to identify the amounts of individual donations.
As far as identifying individual $100 donors, I apologize if anyone took offense, but I stand by that decision.
For all, this is your money, your accomplishment, your message and a job well done.

You're not going anywhere Steve, unless the bank matches the spreadsheet.  Look outside your window. :)

08/15/11 02:45 PM #1665

Steve Jetton

I was going to mentioned that any connection between my road trip and the burgeoning class account is mere coincidence.  You can trust me, if for no other reason than Jack is looking over my shoulder.

08/15/11 03:31 PM #1666

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Jack,

I think you're on to something with Jetton.  You know there are Super Senior Tennis Tournaments, and, there are three or four coming up the next two weeks in CO. and Utah.  With flight tickets, food, lodging, racket stringing, muscle relaxers, rub downs, saunas, coaching, entertainment, and entry fees.  You know, we'll have to watch Sandy too.  She may be in on this with him, for a percent of his winnings.  Ha! Ha!

08/15/11 04:29 PM #1667

Jack Habich

Rod,

My sources tell me that this time, Jetton is going out East to watch younger men play;  the likes of  Nadal, Djockovic and Federer.

Actually, his risk is greatly diminished.  Wall Street has gone up three days in a row now, so he retains his position as one of the class swells.

I'm told that Sandy will remain in Bloomington, but under surveillance.

To save me the trouble of reading back through all of those pages, who are the four $100 contribitors? I want to thank the donors as well. All of you. Without these funds, I would have to shut up next year. (laugh)

And the Four $100 Donors Are:

Ken and Pat Hocenic Lehr

Linda Bristow Elias

Terri "Boo Boo" Baxter Whirrett

Mel Theobald

I hear the applause already.

I was lucky to meet all of them at the gathering. Thanks for all of the $5 ones too. It take a village to ........... where the heck was I going with that? (laugh)

08/15/11 08:21 PM #1671

Steve Jetton

Milan, "it takes a village," eh?  Somehow I thought you were of a different political persuation.  Guess I "misunderestimated" you.  Okay, I know we don't do politics here .... couldn't help myself.

Jack, I believe I have managed to decieve you if you mean what I think by "class swell."  Then again, maybe you mean I'm a swell guy.  Or, more likely, one the "class swills."

Hayes, another reason you are off base on your suspicion is that I am refocusing my meager athletic abilities on Super Senior Wiffleball.  I know we won't meet up this year but I'll be ready for you in 2012.

By the way, the Cincy tournament will also have the young ladies.  :)

This one doesn't play as well but I think is better looking.  (I'm biased.)

Political? Heck, I thought it came from the Village People. (laugh)

08/15/11 09:35 PM #1673

Jack Habich

Steve, "class swells" means only one thing; financial elite.  You know, the top 2%.

Milan is totally conflicted.  On one side, he can't wait to give you a tax cut, and on the other, he's got that subconscious "village" thing going on.

No conflict about the fact that your daughter is better looking, though.

08/16/11 08:41 AM #1674

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Steve,

We should sell tickets to see us in 2012.  Not everyday do people get to see two Wiffle Ball Hall of Famers at one time.  We are in the Hall aren't we???

08/16/11 04:56 PM #1675

Jack Habich

Rod, I don't know if Steve made the Hall of Fame, but I do know he's not in town anymore.

He's off to watch some heavy duty tennis, then maybe go to see our government in action, or fly here or fly there.  That's what the leisurely class do, you know.

08/17/11 12:27 AM #1676

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Rod and Jack, I'm not sure if you got that right. I was thinking Detention Hall rather than Hall of Fame. I'm pretty sure you are both in it. Not sure about Jetton. Can you help me out here? And, let's not forget the bongos when planning the Wiffle Ball World Series.

Milan, I have lots of Cadmium Yellow in oil or acrylic if that helps you to complete that already impressive rainbow.

(Side note for Steve, see not everything has to be long winded. :-) Whew, I'm tired and have to take a break.)

08/17/11 08:35 AM #1677

Jack Habich

Just yesterday, on my cell phone, I found proof of my bongo acumen. On the reflections, you might see hints of the piano player, and the burgeoning crowd at Jim's. I also found proof that I might have had one too many slices of pizza at CJ’s…that it’s not just the shirt. I immediately went out to walk three miles.

08/17/11 11:11 AM #1678

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Well Jack,

The only heavy duty tennis I would go watch is if Serena Williams is playing.  As far as going to see our government in action, that's great.  Then he can tell his grand-children all about the USA, before it was known as, The USA, a Subsidiary of, The Republic of China.  The statement about flying here and there does bother me.  I thought Steve was on a NO FLY list.  About that picture Jack.  I didn't notice anything unusual about the shirt.  I did notice though, that you might be growing those chipmunk cheeks. Ha!  Sometime when I see you, I'll tell you what that picture really reminds me of.  But not here.

Mel, I think I may have spent some time in detention.  That sounds pretty right.  I'm not sure about Jetton.  Except I know a few times his Mother wanted to put him in detention.  I did know some guys who thought they took detention as an elective.  Kids can't be put in detention, or anything else that might hurt their feelings now days.  Law suit, Law suit.  Parents go instantly into stress mode.  I knew this young man who taught Jr. High in Houston.  I will admit that he was very structured and disciplined.  However, he left the teaching field.  When I asked him why, he didn't hesitate with a very good reply.  He said, "When YOU lose control, Chaos takes over.  When you are NOT ALLOWED to have control, Chaos is Constant.  And then, teaching and learning no longer exist.

08/17/11 11:53 AM #1679

Jack Habich

Oh, Steve's been in detention all right.  He spent some time in Guantanamo.  A solid 54% of the class approved of his release.  Patty represented us at the welcome-home party.

08/17/11 11:57 AM #1680

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Rod,

You win the prize of the week for this line, "I did know some guys who thought they took detention as an elective." I laughed so hard I almost snorted my morning coffee.

As for your friend, it is really devastating as a former teacher to hear such deeply meaningful truths which have deterred so many good teachers. Having taught art at local universities for over 12 years, I believe the one thing that competent teachers cannot do without is autonomy in the classroom. Norman MacLean who taught at the UofC, wrote the book "A River Runs Through It" and won the teaching excellence award numerous times, wrote "what makes a good teacher is one that is tough and deeply in love with his or her subject." Glad you shared that story.

Jack, as I told Boo, I thought you looked just fine, especially the pizza drool. Still waiting for my bongo recording to come in the mail. I'm betting it will be stained in Parmesan and Pepperoni. As with old wrestlers, just think of it this way, you have only moved up to higher weight division. You are still a fierce competitor. I think Holt and Jetton are still wrestling in the bantamweight class. Be proud when you look upon yourself. Was that your finger in the photo posted in #1701?
