Linda,

Don't forget Mardi Gras the day before Valentine's Day. Thank goodness January is over. Then there is Groundhog Day on Friday. Let's hope for a short winter.

Marv.....  "Raider" my thoroughbred probably would not keep up with you high powered Mimi van especially with our buggy limo in tow ... SO PLEASE be sure you don't leave befor us!  I would not want you to have the death of a "raider" on your conscience!  I hope by the time we leave his special ordered purple and gold bridle and harness will be delivered !

Glad January is over.  It always seems so long.  But usually we don't have snow until February.  Since we had snow in January, hoping for not much in February.  It's supposed to be sunny on Friday so the groundhog might see his shadow and it's six more weeks until Spring.  Of all the cloudy days we've had, it would be sunny on Friday, when we want cloudy.  ha-ha

Beside Valentine's Day, this year, it is also Ash Wednesday.  The start of Lent in preparation for Easter, which is March 31 this year.  When I was growing up, I always thought that was only done in Catholic churches, but my church has done this for some time now.  I belong to First Christian Church, a Disciples of Christ Church.

It is also Leap Year so we have a February 29th this year.  Remember the Leap Year Dance BHS had in 1964?

Mel and Sandy:

Here in my desert, we would rather have a long winter!

Feb. and Mar. sure are packed with special days!  One that we missed was St. Patrick's Day!  I wonder who came up with the concept that if someone didn't wear green on that day that they should be pinched?

Aren't people full of surprises?  If someone pinched me, I would hit them!

And tomorrow is "Groundhog" Day, so Winter may not be winding down?

Spring, Sausage Day (Ground Hog), or other harbinger of spring.  It does not seem to make a lot of difference in the grand scheme of things.  There seem to be exceptions to all the tried and true legends.  One thing I will say--After 3 or 4 successive days of 60*+ weather, the bugs will become more active.  I have not seen any early spring flowers (Jonquils, Crocus) poking up any green leaves yet.  As often as not, they will come up through snow.

Ray:

Where do you live?   We can get a little snow dusting sometimes on our mountains.  But about once every 20 years we get close to a foot deep of that cold stuff!

Thank you for the photo!

Linda, We're in Reno and this is the second sizable snowfall of the season.  It's still snowing but should end in three to four hours.

Sandra Jeakins (Singletary Sizemore)

Ray, do you have groundhogs in your area and do you have a groundhog day?  I don't think of snow in Reno or in the desert. Is that your dog with all the snow on it?  From what I could tell, it looks like my Maggie, a minature Dachshund.

Linda, you said you hoped for a long winter so that made me wonder if you had a groundhog day in your area.

So far, the weather looks good and maybe our groundhog was right.  It's supposed to be in the 50s all week.  And lots of sunshine, which means more to me than the temperature.

Sandy:

We do not have groundhogs here.  But we're called the Sun City as a logo.

If you ever want to spend the winter down here, you're welcome.  Won't cost you a cent except for your travel.

Also, I don't allow animals in my house.  Maybe your son could baby sit your dog?

Thanks, Linda,  my dog died almost two years ago after having her for 15 years. So I'm by myself.  I'll keep your invite in mind.  But I'm pretty much a homebody.

Sandy, We do not have any Groundhog here, the ground is too rocky.  Wheezer, our Dachshund, is twelve years old and loves the snow.  As snow goes here, it depends on the elevation.  We got twelve plus inches from this storm but the airport only recorded eight inches and Mount Rose had twenty-six inches and we get a lot of smaller storms with two to four inches. Thank you for asking.

I guessed right that your Dog is a Dachshund under that snow.  ha-ha  Wheezer is such a cute name.   Maggie was 15 yrs old when she died in 2022.  Aren't they great little dogs?  Maggie was my third Doxie and the one that lived the longest.   She was my baby.  I really miss her.

It's sunny and warm ( 60*) in St. Louis today.  While walking, I visited  the wild flower garden.  I spotted several Jonquils poking up their noses.  I expect they will see frost before blooming, but they are coming.
