For Thursday let's make our theme  My Cutest Photo not meaning of yourself although that would be acceptable. Freestyle Friday will be next so let's see what what you think will make the rest of us smile.

FYI - According to the website statistics 17 of our classmates have looked in since May 1. Would be great to see you show us photos of some of your experiences.

Because we lived in SE Asia for nine years we like to celebrate Chinese New Year with a special dinner.  One year my friend Kathleen wore an almost identical jacket to the one my granddaughter Emma had on.

These two boys are going to a temple for their special day.  I think they are five years old, but they are wearing traditional dress.  The kimonos are made to grow with the boys.

I think this boy is seven.  This was taken at the Meiji Shrine in Tokyo

Dave B., thanks for the Denali area photos, They're spectacular. Since Jack is going to take Tuesday, what if you take Monday for Max? WILDLIFE, BACKYARD ANIMALS OR ZOO or whatever you decide? Sounds fun.

Halloween was almost as exciting as birthdays when my son and daughter were growing up. This is a 3 year span of them IN COSTUME and one of me several years earlier.

1987

1988

1989 with neighbor's who are now Chicago Police Officers

My students at St. Xavier University in 1976. I'm 2nd from the right.

One photo was taken in Alaska of a native in authentic dress and the other is 3 of my grandkids at Halloween.

Docents in period costumes have always made for great photos. And when they are in character as well as costume, so much the better. These three were taken at Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia in 1987.

Young woman in a blacksmith shop.

I always wondered if she sacrificed a summer internship at somewhere like IBM just so she could sit in a southern blacksmith shop all day with a smudgy face and no air conditioning. Maybe, but I'm guessing she probably didn't.

A gunsmith deep in conversation with Marilyn Andersen Keefe (BHS '64), my first wife.

I don't know what to call this costumed docent, but she was showing off the wares of the peruke maker.

That was a most educational trip for the whole family.

Hi All,

Here goes with costumes:

Pope Benedict - not really a costume but you get the idea.....

We were at the General Audience and were very close to the lane he came in sitting in the back of the Popemobile.

this is a pretty good shot of "Dolly" during her performance.  This is really a guy in drag -What Happens in Vegas,,,

Did I post this one before?  During a photo shoot the model was kind enough to pose for me.  There is a hair out of place.

At Spanish Bay Resort - Every night at sunset the Piper comes out and plays Taps....

Good Night all - will catch up tomorrow.

For Saturday, let's do Critter's.  Could be strange pets or critter's of any kind.    If somebody would like my Saturday, speak up.   I will gladly give it to somebody.

Thanks for the list of suggestions for the themes.   That does help.

Mel--How about Wildlife for Monday?  The origin/source can be wherever you saw the animal--in the wild or zoo or wherever.

David, you crack me up.   Thanks for the laugh.

Jack, when the kids and I saw that wall of rain I mentioned in my post, we were headed for Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia.   The boys and I went there while Ron was fishing in a tournament.

There were pretty clouds today.  I caught myself looking at them since that was our theme yesterday.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Sandy, I have long believed that artists change the way people see the world. It's great to hear that you were looking at clouds today with renewed energy, because all our classmate's photos are giving the rest of us a new view of our own world. In my opinion, everyone is an artist and every story is a gift. So Sandy Saturday is CRITTERS.

Dave B., you are on. WILDLIFE for Monday. No one will be happier to know that than Max who is now off the hook. LOL I should know because Jack will relieve me on Tuesday. Thank god.

And tomorrow is MY CUTEST PHOTO per Marv. Dave L. still has Sunday, which is Mother's Day, unless someone else beats him to the punch. Hint, hint. Wink, wink.

Joan, I love those costumes. Reminds of a couple who once came to my Halloween Party dressed as surgeons wearing scrubs and masks, costumes they defined as A Pair-A-Docs. You are something, winning the pumpkin carving and costume contests. What's next? I bet Wendy would be delighted if you come up with next Wednesday's theme. Whacha think?

Dave...

Thank you for taking over Mondays.  Needed some new blood to come up with some great ideas.  You're just the guy to make that happen!

I'm stumped on the "cutest photo" topic. But puppies are natural winners, so here's Heidi. Taken on the day we got her in 1979 in Wichita, Kansas. I hope I didn't submit this one before. If I did, my apologies.

This may not be cute as cute things go, but rather in the category of cute--unusual or imposssible.  We have a brick border around our garden space.  The Asparagus spears decided to come up through a hole in the brick.

Those asparagus spears are very funny.  I also have a dog picture.  This is the 14 year old Walter, who comes to the physical therapy place every day.  I had shoulder surgery in February and am there twice a week.  He likes to curl up on a pillow.

After reading comments by Wendy and Jack about Angler’s Club, it stirred up so many good memories. When I was about 8 yrs. old my parent’s joined; and I spent many summers days there. After my junior year I had summer jobs so I didn’t get to Anglers as much after that. Unfortunately, it is sad to see it is so shabby today. I remember the sand beach, two wooden piers on each side of the swimming area, a tower with diving board, two wooden rafts, 2-3 wooden row boats we could use, lily pads getting stuck on our oars, frogs, 1 or 2 swings with some gym equipment, picnic area with grills, club house with frozen Snicker bars, 2 outhouses (not my favorite place), large mulberry trees, a large wooded area we loved to explore, a long tree and bush lined path into Anglers with a little log cabin toward the end. It seemed like a different world to me in those days.

Barbi Read and I used to ride our bikes to Angler’s from our homes near Illinois Wesleyan, swim all afternoon and then ride home. Sometimes we would pool our money on our way home, stop at a little store (possibly DeMent’s) and for 12 cents get a package of Hostess cupcakes. Each of us had one.

In those days I was much braver and less wise than today. Never having any lessons, foolishly one day I decided to try to do backward dives off the tower. I tried using one step of the tower at a time until I made it to the top. After having some success at that, later in the summer I decided to try inward dives off the tower diving board. I know today I would not even dive off the tower (if it is still there) let alone backward and inward dives. One day Barbi told me she thought I was doing the inwards too close to the board and was afraid I was going to hit my head. I quit that for good! It is a wonder I didn’t kill myself!  She probably saved my life!

When I think back to my summer childhood days, Angler’s Club is a large part of those memories.

I've got Mother's Day!  That is the Theme - What do you have on or about MOTHERS?  Never really knew mine, but will start looking.

This is a variation of another picture I posted before of Ralph, our Boxer, and his Daughter, JC.  This is the 1st time we had put them together.  He was 11 yrs old when he became a Daddy.  The Mom wasn't a Boxer, but all the puppies had the Boxer coloring.  The puppies were born in Canada.

Sandra, here's a strikingly similar pose between my dad and my son Jim in October, 1966. This has always been a poignant photo for me. Jim will be 54 years old this sunday. In this photo my dad was 59. He died in 1972.

Judy, thanks for posting the Anglers Club memories. I seem to have a million of them too. It was a great place back in the day. I wonder if any classmates have any photos they'd like to post from those days at Anglers? Hopefully they do.

These days, the rafts and tower are gone, but I wonder if the underwater supports are still there. The wooden piers are gone too. Square Pond is still there, but the "third lake" east of the clubhouse is gone and might be a parking lot now.

Today Janet and I were in our basement looking for more storage space, and I came across my old guitar that I bought in 1959. Joe Dowell taught me how to play it. Ah, the memories.

And one of the Anglers classmates is pictured as a student teacher at Janet's high school her senior year: Mary Eisenberg Mullins. Janet doesn't remember her as a teacher, but they actually met one New Years at a party at your house! What a small world.

Jack, just a sweet picture with your Son looking up at your Dad.  Too bad your Dad died so young.  That makes pictures even more precious.
