Catharine (Cathy) Quiett (Van Antwerp)

BULLARD, Texas — Catharine Frances Quiett Van Antwerp, 69, of Bullard, Texas, and White Sulphur Springs, Mont., passed away July 27, 2015, after a long battle with ovarian cancer.

A celebration of her life will be Saturday at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club in Bullard. Cathy had a love and passion for the game of golf and enjoyed mah jong with her friends; we will honor her by dressing in casual, golfing or mah jong attire.

Cathy was born June 6, 1946, in Bloomington. She graduated from Bloomington High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Illinois and a master of business administration from the University of North Texas.

Cathy was married to Joel Van Antwerp on June 10, 1967; they were married for 48 years.

Cathy worked as a real estate broker in the Dallas area, and served on the board of trustees for the Little Elm Independent School District. After moving to East Texas, she became an avid golfer, and served as president of the Ladies’ Golf Association at Emerald Bay Country Club. She was also active in the LGA at Eagle’s Bluff and in Junior Golf at both Emerald Bay and Eagle’s Bluff. Cathy enjoyed mah jong, travel, collecting antiques and visiting with family and friends. She especially loved exploring the Montana countryside. Her other creative and athletic pursuits included water skiing; spinning, weaving, and knitting; and long walks with her beloved dogs.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Joel; son, Daniel; daughter, Kimberly; sister, Elizabeth Rodrian, and her husband, John, and their daughters, Lisa and Amy and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin Verlie and Maxine Quiett of Bloomington.

Of particular importance to Cathy was spreading the word about how to recognize symptoms of ovarian cancer. This September, National Ovarian Cancer Coalition will be launching Cathy’s Project, an initiative that will place awareness posters in every gynecologist’s office in the United States. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition or the charity of the giver’s choice.

Cathy’s family wishes to thank The Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center in Dallas and The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler for their caring assistance during Cathy’s battle with cancer.
