John Arthur Hostetler, 77, passed away on October 2, 2023, in Memphis, TN. He was born on

April 4, 1946, in Bloomington, IL. John was kind, generous, and cared deeply about preserving

and sustaining the natural world. He had a ready laugh and a warm smile that endeared him to

all who knew him.

John is survived by his loving wife, Lynne Hostetler, his beloved daughter, Lisa Hostetler, and his nephews and niece, Jeff Hostetler, Ken Hostetler, Chuck Kraft, and Karen Showalter. He was preceded in death by his father, James Hostetler, his mother, Marjorie Hostetler, and his brother, Peter Hostetler. John graduated in 1968 from Lambuth College in Jackson, TN, with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned a Master of Science from Illinois State University in 1970. After a year teaching biology at Lambuth, he transitioned to a successful sales career, specializing in water and waste treatment, the last 28 years with Aquatrol, Inc., he retired in 2017. John was an active member of Memphis First United Methodist Church, serving in several leadership roles. He loved music and was a member of the choir. He found solace and strength in his faith. In his free time, John enjoyed playing golf and reading. He was an avid photographer who set up a home darkroom while living in Jackson, TN, which inspired his daughter to pursue a career as a museum photography curator. He had a passion for good food and trying new restaurants, and this fed his love of cooking for family and friends A memorial service will be held in honor of John at Memphis First United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 7, at 1pm with visitation beginning at noon. Friends and family are invited to attend the service to celebrate his life. Memorial donations may be made to Memphis First United Methodist Church, Room in the Inn (RITI), or the Midsouth Food Bank. Contributions to these organizations will continue John's legacy of caring for others and making a positive impact in the community. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, dedication, and warm spirit will forever be remembered. May he rest in peace.
