Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Killer?  I'll take your Killer and raise you one. During my music career, Kathy and I were among approximately 50 people invited to a "dress rehersal"  for an English band called the Yardbirds the night before they played at the Paramount Theater in Oakland.  Yardbird's guitarist at the time was Jimmy Page who later went on to fame as the lead guitar with Led Zepplin.  Of course I'm trumped by a good friend, our age, who was born and raised in Liverpool, England.  You could guess the name of the band she regularly saw at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Yes Jerry, the Killer.  That was a name that everyone always called Jerry Lee Lewis, including himself.  I'll take a guess at who your friend saw at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.  Would it be, The Dave Clark Five, maybe Herman & the Hermits, The Turtles.  Could it have been a female, like LuLu.

Mike,  Sorry, but I can't relate to Seinfield.  I probably haven't seen one full hour total in my life.  I know, it was a massive hit and was on forever.   But, personally, I can't stand Jerry Seinfield.  He's a terrible stand-up, he's very boring on talk shows, and really, just not funny.  Oh, and one more oddity.  I have seen, maybe 60 minutes of MASH all total.  Hey, but I did like Gunsmoke.

Marilyn --  You're right, Mickey and Jimmy can really play the piano.  But Jerry Lee is the one who can pound it to death and really work it.  If you put them in a bag, shook'em up and dumped them out.  You might get Jimmy to really pound a piano, and Mickey might preach a little, but Ole Jerry Lee would still just do what he always has.  Get down with that old Rockabilly Country.

Jack --  I agree, you wouldn't make it as a TV Evangelist.  I look at Joel Osteen, I look at you, as I know you, and I say, Jack, just can't smile for that long a time.  Do you ever watch Joel and think, does Joel ever get tired of saying, "Why just the other day, I said to my wife, Victoria" Blah Blah Blah.  If I ever met that guy face to face, I would say,  Joel, does Victoria have a middle name, and what have you said to her today.  Ha!

Rod,

You are a man of singular intelligence... I can tell it from here! Steinfeld  or however you spell it just is not funny and the others on the show aren't either. I am sick of unfunny sitcoms on teevee. We had Carol Burnett and her sidekicks, Milton Bearle, Jackie Gleason, Red Skelton, Victor Borge (funniest man ever to draw breath) Johnathan Winters and so many more truly funny people. these yo - yos can't hold a candle

MASH movie was excellent, the tee vee show,, meh..Too many preachers.. all the actors were preachin 'bout one thing or another

Milan, I need your help!  I tried to put a web site or what ever you call it  on the message forum but I don't  think it will work.

It's really a very beautiful patriotic theme on a house at Christmas time. So maybe you could fix what I tried to do.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Suz

Suzi, it's fixed it.  The copy and paste worked to get to the web page...so when I got there I just re-copied the url and pasted it...so now you can just click it.

Rod,

I've watched Joel and most all of them over the years.  It's fascinating to me to study their different MO's.

In the 80's, the wife and others thought I was off my rocker watching Jim and Tammie Bakker.  I just couldn't believe how they operated....Tammie's tears on demand when it was time to ask for money for The Lord....and how everything was set up to get to that point. Lots of naive people out there.

Sam Kinison, if you remember,  was a prototypical huckster- preacher who went straight and got into comedy, and then incorporated Jim's playmate, Jessica Hahn, into his video act.

I'm with you Rod. Back in the 90's Seinfeld was a "water cooler" thing, while wasting time at work. Now that I'm older, I just go to the mall and sit on the bench in front of Victoria's Secert, thinking of the way things used to be. You know, before Norvasc?

I totally agree with you !  Don't forget Sid Ceaser. And who was that little guy with the big bug eyes?  One of them seemed to wander all over while the other looked straight at you. He was so funny !

Nowadays TV stinks.  If I had my way the damn thing would  hit the dumpster pretty quick.

However, I have a husband who is slowly being brainwashed by all those so called news programs. They are making sheep out of  way too many  people.

I'll stick to books and the web for my entertainment and  information. Even there you have to  use some common sense.

Dave Clark Five was from London, Herman's Hermits from Manchester, The Turtles from LA and Lulu from Scotland.  Jack wins!

Rodney (Rod) Hayes

Jack --  Cavern Club.  Never heard of it.  The correct spelling is Beetle.  You know, hard shell insect.  Sam Kinison.  One of the most annoying guys in thw world.  Where is he now, or did he just keep getting bigger and bigger until he blew up.

Ed --  Thanks for letting me know I'm singularly intelligent.  All this time I thought I had zero intelligence.  One good thing though.  You'll never get my Grand Sons to agree with you.  They think I know everything and can do anything in the world.  Unfortunately they will grow up and find out the real truth.  It's great for now though.

Jerry --  I was just taking a guess.  I really didn't care where all those people were from.  But it's good to know.  And remember, Jack always thinks he wins.

If you like to study the MO of all these Evangelists, whoops, frauds, you should have been with me a few times over the years.  It's too long and complicated to go into, but trust me.  Go to the internet and look up Kenneth Copeland and Mike Murdock.  I can tell you some stories about these two guys that are off the chart.  Then there is my favorite.  The Angel Food Ministiries.  I can tell you some things about these people that only the FBI knows.  Check them out and get back to me.

Mike, next time I'm get to B/N, I want to go to the Mall with you!!!

A  Beetle is a hard shelled insect OR a Volkswagen.  As far as I know, neither played the Cavern Club.  The Beatles did.  And for what it's worth,  I also knew the amazing Lulu came from Scotland.

As  for Kinison, he is sleeping.  Wrecked his car years ago.

You probably already do know where the band Chicago comes from.

Jack,

While the answer is a BGO, the group really got going after them moved to LA.

Jerry,

Please don’t give Rod too many clues (in case he doesn’t know).  Make him work for it.

Now, I don’t know if I can win over your Jimmy Page experience, but I do have a Chicago (the band) story.

My friend Ray grew up with some of the band members, and knew them all, especially Peter Cetera.  In 1969, shortly after moving to Chicago, I had a party and Ray brought over the new Chicago Transit Authority album, saying these were his buddies…I had never heard of them.

Late one Sunday morning in 1970, for some reason, Ray and I were on Rush Street at a place called Rush Over, drinking Bloody Marys.  I looked over across the room and a tall guy with long hair was waving and trying to get Ray’s attention.  It was Walter Parazeider.  Ray beckoned him over, and with him came Terry Kath and Robert Lamm, along with their drinks.  Ray introduced me and we did the obligatory soul shake and “what’s happening man?”  We talked and drank for about 20-30 minutes.

They had just packed the house at Soldier Field the night before, and here we were talking street talk.  A memorable experience for a 23 year old, recently from Bloomington.

Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Jack,

Chicago is one of the country's great music towns but San Francisco topped them all in the '60s.  From We5, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Santana, Country Joe and the Fish, Beau Brummels, Holly Penfield Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Journey, Quicksilver etc. it was a wonderful time for rock.

Had I known you better, having a great bongo player might have put us over the top.

12/15/11 12:43 PM #2473

Jack Habich

Jerry, I also played first seat French Horn in Jr. High, but I don't think that would have done it as far as getting us over the top with your band......the bongos for sure.

Ironically, the Ray I was talking about moved to San Francisco (Walnut Creek) for a while to get his Masters in Physics.  He took Dee and me to a place where Janis Joplin regularly had breakfast.  Kind of a wharf on water, rustic as I recall, and one of the best breakfasts ever.

12/15/11 03:34 PM #2474

Gerald (Jerry) Plummer

Jack,

I live just over the hill from Walnut Creek.  Was your breakfast spot in The City or Berkeley?

12/15/11 04:19 PM #2475

Jack Habich

Jerry, I'm thinking Berkeley but I'm not certain.  I've got an e-mail in to Ray (now in Boston) to see if he recalls.*

Scenic drive from Walnut Creek into the City, as Ray let us know 3 or 4 times.

* (Return e-mail said he was on vacation til 1-2, and I don't think I want to mess with him on vacation so the answer will have to wait).
