Quick Question?

05/21/25 12:52 AM #11671

James (Jim) Rookus

GOOD question Dave !   If I drive by a BBQ place and spell the aroma, I would stop and take it all in.  I'm afraid if the fly did that, it would not be able to breath, succumb and go away to fly heaven !

Below is my favorite BBQ Joint.... about 50 miles south of the state line from Georgia entering Florida.  Jim's BBQ, gift shop and gas station !  Plan trips to and from Florida so I am sure to pass Jim's when they are open to serve me my FAVORITE BBQ (Brisket) anywhere ! ! !  The place isn't much to look at, but WOW to the Smoked BBQ !!!

Jim, Marvin is really busy right now with a project, so I will tell you who those couples are from left to right:

    JudyTynan with husband, George Danielson

Rita Moore with husband, James Duncan

Marsha Hutson with husband, Ron Brownfield

I hope this helps.

Our brother  DAVE BROCK  has not been heard of on here since May 13.

DAVE are you OK with all the tornado damage in and around St. Louis ?

To All My Brothers and Sisters that Served Our Country, those that are no longer with us on this mortal coil and those  alive and well and still able to take nourishment:  Wishing you a blest Memorial Day!

I am OK--The storms have been close, and we have exerienced some of the fringe benefits. The heavy duty damage has gone around.  We had 8 or 9 inches of rain with minor flooding, as well as small limbs and branches knocked from the trees.  I suppose the worst here has been the excess moisture--There are 2 or 3 patches of the yard not mowable for about 3 weeks.  Some of it was about knee deep when I finally got into it.  I got stuck a couple of times and had to use the truck to pull the mower out.  Fortunately, we did not lose power for more than a few minutes several times.  That is a big deal when living in a rural area.  Most of the garden is in and the Blackberries have bloomed, so we get to see who gets there first--the deer, birds or us.

Where do you live with a rural home?

Wendy Stephens (Cullen)

Thanks for the mini reunion pictures.  I recognize some people and names, but not all. Having said that, would anybody recognize me?  I was last in Bloomington for the 50th reunion.

Melvin (Mel) Theobald

Wendy, I recognize you. Going back to kindergarten, you haven't changed a bit. Well maybe a little. But so has everyone else. Fact is, you will always be the Wendy I knew then. Time is funny that way. I think of all of you the way you were when I first met you. The list of friends is long, the memories are indelible, and the good fortune to have been in your company is etched in my brain as permanently as the lyrics to our cheer song, "Bloomington we love thy name, we will bring thee greater fame. We're for you, yes everyone, until the victory is won. Rah, rah, rah. Go Raiders."

We live ,officially, in Catawissa, Mo.  It is in a rural part of Jefferson County, southwest of St. Louis.  We are not in a subdivision, and we live about halfway between Cedar Hilll and Pacific.  If you are familiar with metro-St. Louis, we are about 7 miles, as the crow flies, south of Six Flags Park..  By road, it is a 15 mile paved deer path.  We are in the eastern end of the Ozark Mountains, and in a valley.

Thanks Suzi for more pics.... wish we could have been there !

SO... here is another thing from the past....  about a year ago on the forum we had a bunch reply to their favorite sandwich from youth days!  Someone recalled and said they liked a combo of Braunswieger (SP?) and Grape Jelly !  My first reaction was ICK !!!  So a few days ago I finally tried it.  Not as bad as expected BUT it will not be a regular on my diet !

I dared only try a half so when folded over it would not be too overwhelming !

Jim,  you ruined the sandwich!  It's supposed to be on un-toasted white bread, not that healthy stuff  Try again

Oh No!

Apparently RSVP'ing to a wedding invitation with: "Maybe next time" isn't the correct response.

If you've never been to the Wheel In in Sedalia, MO, it's too late as they closed in 2007. But you can recreate their signature sandwich, if you're adventurous. It's pretty simple:  a juicy burger on a toasted bun topped with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and the secret ingredient, heated peanut butter that's poured over everything then topped with the other half of the bun. It was called the "Goober Burger", and originated right there in Sedalia. I've changed mine up a little and leave out the garden and Mayo, but add sweet pickles and use chunky peanut butter instead of creamy. I refer to it as the "Nutty Goober Burger ".
Enjoy!! 😊

James (Jim) Rookus

DAVE ....  Don't think I'll be trying that "Nutty Goober Burger" anytime soon.

AND... not sure the flavor of the bread would be detectable through the unusual taste combination of Braunswieger and Grape Jelly.

This is what the east end of the pool area looked like with the beautiful 50ft tall white pines providing natures beauty and shade ...... the second picture is what it looks like now.... after my son single handedly became a lumberjack after conspiring with my wife to remove them to provide more sun on the pool.

So sad and barren looking now, missing the personality nature provided ! sad  A slow start to the pool surrounding area getting  "beautified" for the summer until all the dirt and debri from continued tree and limb removal is completed !  I've heard that "PATIENCE is a VIRTUE" ! ! !

WHAT SUMMER PROJECTS DO SOME OF YOU RAIDERS HAVE TO EMBARK UPON THIS SUMMER ?

Get some artificial palm fronds and attach them to the tops of what's left. Your neighbors will be amazed at your tropical pool.
