No, this isn't in Italy.  It is on our house jobsite in Ithaca, NY in 2010.010.

And Finally - This is my buddy Joe.  He's one the breakfast guys (KofC) that get together every Wednesday and Friday morning at our local Hy-Vee.  We pretty well know the chef, and Joe complained one day about the size of the Blueberry Pancakes he'd been getting.  This was the result of the complaint.  It must have weighed 5 pounds and fed six or seven guys.  I think I'm going to complain to Alek (the chef) that the size of the sausage patties are too small and see what happens :

Larry - that looks much like the Jane Fonda Memorial!

This is my college gang from a 1969 wedding reception in Akron, Ohio. Some of us are still in touch but the marriage broke up after more than 40 years. The guy on the left (bushy sideburns) is Bill Kraus, who died of AIDS in the eighties. He was an activist, and even addressed the Democratic National Convention in 1984. Bill's story was told in a movie and book, both titled "And the Band Played On."   And who remembers the old Edwards School? It's gone now, and the site is occupied by Mt. Pisgah church and a branch of the Mid Illini Credit Union. The old school was torn down in the eighties after sitting derelict for years. It was named for a president of ISNU.

Fun pictures this morning.  This one reflects how I feel after reading the morning newspaper.

I knew I had some pictures from The Grand Canyon and this morning I found some.
The guide told us even if someone who doesn't like heights, doesn't mind being at the Grand Canyon.  That was not true for me.  I still felt the height and when Jim would go out to a railing, to look down, I stayed back and told him to get back.

Jack, I have heard of that movie, but haven't seen it.  That is neat that you know the person the movie is about. If I can find the book,  I'd like to read it.  Edwards School had a major fire in the 80's.  Do you remember when that was?  The neighborhood was full of smoke and since my parents still lived a block away from there it affected my Mom because she had breathing problems.   Altough I could see Edwards school from my front porch, we lived on the wrong side of the street and I went to Bent School.

Mel, those were cute little girl pictures.

Wendy, I agree with you.  That's just about how I felt about the 30 day extension, although, I kind of expected it. Sure puts a damper on plans.

David, I have a picture of my 55 year old son feeding himself the 1st time.  Of course, I had to show that picture when he had his 50th Brithday Party.  Isn't that what parents are suppose to do?    Happily, they do learn the correct way to do it.

WOW!!! I've got goose bumps seeing Larry Chace this morning. Larry, that is the fanciest port-a-potty ever. You might want to consider keeping it when your new home is finished. Of course, it could use a brick on the right to level it up.

This is starting out to be a great day. So many fabulous photos. Love the pelicans and pancake stories.

Most of you know by now that I'm not shy, but I guess I've always been that way. This 1956 photo was taken in the basement of my grandparent's house in Decatur. Grandma is cutting a cake for her otherwise sedate family. Marv is in the background while I was in the front doing some kind of Red Skelton throwback. Some things just never seem to change.

Having had this duty while getting my rabbies shots - I can tell you this is the correct way to do the Duty.  So, LARRY, if you do decide to keep the port-a-potty aka the Jane Fonda Memorial, this is the only way to fully care for your new "house".

Free for All Friday: Malcolm, a member of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation animal assisted therapy team, is making the transition to working from home. He was doing well until he realized his lack of opposable thumbs could be a challenge.

Dave covered how to eat yogurt, ice cream cones, and PB&J. I will add how to eat your first birthday cake.  My youngest grandson is figuring it out here.

Last minute Freestyle Friday entry. Judy collects monarch caterpillars and sets up a nursery to protect them from predators. She feeds them milkweed leaves and releases them once they have emerged. I took the photos below as the caterpillar transforms from a caterpillar to a chrysalis with a fully formed chrysalis in the back ground and then just before the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis. It is amazing to watch. You can see the butterfly through the skin of the chrysalis just before it opens.

Sandra, the book and movie, And the Band Played On are both available on Amazon. If you get serious about actually ordering, there are several works that have the same title. You want the one that deals with politics and AIDS. The author is Randy Shilts.

"Canadian Sunset 1973." About 20 miles west of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, looking out toward the spot where the famed Edmund Fitzgerald would later sink on November 10, 1975. Note the ship a couple of miles out on Lake Superior. (Today's topic is sunsets, right? or do I have my days mixed up?)

Larry – Welcome to the fun! What a precarious set up.  I certainly would not enter on a windy day or any other day for that matter. It would be too easy for someone like Mel to see me go in and decide to give it a little nudge.

Wendy – Love the fountain face and your caption. I suspect the sculptor did not intend it to have that kind of reaction but it is easy to see it from your perspective. Fun shot.

Dave B - Awesome shot of Grand Canon sunrise. Love how crisp it is not to mention the color capture.

Sandy – I hiked the 7.1 mile long Grand Canyon Bright Angel Trail in your photo on July 3, 1966. It was 120° at the bottom of the canon that day and all I had with me was a quart canteen of water. It was one of the most grueling things I have ever done but a great memory.

Now for sunsets. From the pontoon boat at Heritage Lake last year.

From Mel's 10th floor condo in Chicago in 2011. Unfortuntely new construction now almost totally blocks this view.

Just after dawn in Springfield, Illininois. No sun, only the fog. Taken in May, 1990.Also may be a stretch for the sunset topic for today. More of a companion photo.

I have two sunset photos.  One is in Maui and the other taken last night in Spring Green, WI, where I live.  I'll let you figure out which is which.

Loving the photos! The monarch metamorphosis is amazing! They often visit here in late summer

. They also seem to like bronze fennel. I have some great pics but have given up trying to share! Keep them coming!
