Ellis N. Harter; 75, Bloomington, died at 1:45 a.m. Saturday (June 2, 2007) at Weymouth, Mass. Ellis died peacefully with his family present around him.
 
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Military rites will be accorded. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
 
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to the donor’s choice.
 
He was born Nov.17, 1931 at Normal, a son of Omar Newton and Helena Karr Harter.
 
Surviving is a son, David Dillon (Elin) Harter, Hingham, Mass.; one brother, Roger (Claire) Karr Harter, Burmingham, Mich.; one sister, Martha Harter Hollingsworth, Boulder, Colo.; and a grandson, Sam Jacobs Harter, Hingham, Mass.
 
He was preceded in death by one son and one sister.
 
Ellis taught in the Bloomington school system for 30 years in the English department.
 
Hi was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington. Ellis was a marine veteran of the Korean War. He proudly served from January of 1951 to January of 1954.
