Libero Bertagnolli

Libero Bertagnolli, 77, of 227 Robinhood Lane, Bloomington, a former Bloomington High School and Illinois Wesleyan University coach, died at 12:18 a.m., yesterday (Sept, 14, 1992) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center. A story is on page B3.
 
There will be a private family service.
 
Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Beck memorial Home, Bloomington, will be in charge of arrangements.
 
He was born Nov.13, 1914 in Benld, the son of Lorenz and Rosa Bolego Bertagnolli. He married Zora Pavichevich Sept. 17, 1941 in St. Louis. She survives.
 
Also surviving are one son, Byron, Champaign; two daughters, Janet Connelly, 106 Blair Drive, Normal, and Leslie taube, Chicago; one brother Arthur, Benld, and two sisters, Louise Boyles and Linda Rolando, both of Benld.
 
Mr. Bertagnolli was a graduate of Washington University, St. Louis, and was named the college’s All Star in 1938. He was named to the college’s Football Hall of Fame in 1990.
 
He played for the Great Lakes football team during World War II and also played with the Chicago Cardinals in the 1940’s. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II and received a masters degree from the University of Illinois in 1952.
 
 
Mr. Bertagolli coached the 1951 Wesleyan University football team to a 8-0 record – one of only three undefeated seasons in the school’s history.
 
He also coached swimming, tennis, and football at Bloomington High School and was the Bloomington Country Club swim coach for many years.
 
He was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Bloomington. He also was a member of Mohammed Temple Shrine, Was Barney Masonic Lodge, Bloomington Consistory, and Louis E. Davis Post of the American Legion. He was a longtime volunteer for the Red Cross, and he was member of TKE Fraternity.
