Paul and I hung around a little, but not extensively, during HS and for some time thereafter. I remember getting postcards from him from Marine Corps boot camp, and I remember him telling me that he had an uncle, General Wade, in the USMC.

Years after moving to the Chicago area, I had a phone call from Paul saying that he was in the neighborhood, and asking if he could come over and talk. How he found me, I don't know.

We took a picture in my living room.

Next time I heard anything about Paul, I heard that he had died.

A few years later, I was out jogging a couple of blocks from my house, and saw a somewhat familiar figure sitting on a porch stoop. It was Paul's younger brother David. We talked, and David asked if he could come over to see the picture. He asked for it and I gave it to him.

I understand that this was the last picture that anybody had of Paul, and that his mother kept it close until the day she died.
