Bill went away a boy and came home a man and HERO! I went to his visitation and it was a very emotional and yet proud experience for me and my ex-husband who was also a marine.

The following comments are from Gary McQuown 1/18/10

Billy and I were friends in High School. The last time I saw Billy was shortly before he was killed. Both of us were in the Marines and I just happened to run into him at one of the small outposts somewhere in northern Viet Nam. I hardly recognized him, he had lost weight, was tanned and looked great. We talked awhile about home and how many days we had left, shook hands and went our separate ways. It was several years later that I learned of Billy's death, as I didn't live in Bloomington anymore. I will remember him as a good friend, gentle soul, and an American hero.
Semper Fi,
Gary McQuown
