Supposed to be 60+ in Overland Park on Sunday. Make a tee time and get in some golf before the game.

Mike:

I live on the down slope of Franklin Mountain referred to as the Coronado Country Club Foothills.  The subdivision is Llamka Park.

Love the mountain!

Thanks Linda. Had to check Google Maps, but found your area. Western slope? Must be a beautiful view of the mountians. That area has really changed, huge population. I knew where UTEP was, but of course back in the day, I was at Bliss. I loved looking at the mountians every day. We spent our time NE, in the desert. Nothing but sand and sage brush. Biggs was a tiny air-strip in those days.

Max, -32?  Do you have trouble starting your cars in the mornings? My old truck didn't want to fire at -19! Trying to drive at that temp......The tires were like rocks and the power steering fluid was like mashed banana's.

David, I hope some of that 60+ floats our way and into the Mackinaw Valley. We did recover to zero today, but nothing to brag about. Expecting snow tonight.

Thanks to the 3 of you. Love to hear from old classmates. My best wishes to all. Stay healthy.     MIKE

Mike...

Both vehicles are kept in the garage.  Temp there is just above freezing so no problems starting.  Only thing with it being that cold is you get the truck nice and warm, shut it off while in a store, come out ten minutes later and start all over with warming it up.  Luckily it’s just a few days and things warm up somewhat.  Just another thing you get used to living up here for 42 years.

Max

Well Mike,  The warm temps have left the area and we are at 10 this morning with the windchill @ 0.  It's been so cold that the ice hasn't melted.  We had a unique snow / ice storm accompanied by lightng.  Headed for colder weather this coming weekend (back to Chicago to see the Grands), before leaving the following Thursday for Arizona and spring training.  Have to get out of this cold for a few days.

Everyone stay safe and warm!

Max - hope you laid in an extra cord of firewood.

David, sounds like life is treating you well. I'm happy for you and I wish you the best. Bloomington, is......well the same old crap. Cold, wet, windy, expensive, and a good place to be from......far away from!  Will you be going to Mesa, to see the Cubs? (Please don't tell me you're a Cardinal fan) Have a great Spring! We're still 2 months out, but I think it'll get here.

Mike,

We're in for a  Suprise!  Being loyal Royals fans and mostly loyal Cubs fans, we'll be seeing the Royals / Dogers; Royals / Giants, & Royals / Padres.  We also have tickets to see Amy Schumer and a tour for the Frank Lloyd House Taliesin West.

Have car keys, will travel.

Thank you Suzi.  Had a great day clearing off 12" of snow.  Quite a bit even for Reno in one snowfall.

Dave Long, the Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin West is a great place to tour. Jim and I were there this past October. The tour is 90 minutes long and very informative. Enjoy.

Hi everyone!  Happy George Washington's Birthday!

My mom used to always have a cherry dessert for dinner at night on his birthday.  Those were the days when they instilled info in us about our presidents, state birds, trees, etc.

I believe we also might have celebrated both Lincoln's and Washington's birthday.  I know it was always mentioned, at the very least.

Memories?

Linda

For you "Flatlanders" we have 50Ft. of snow at Squaw Valley and expecting 5Ft additional this week-end.  We are having record accumulations.  Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!

03/02/19 07:35 PM #7133

Michael (Mike) Franks

Good to hear from you Ray. Here in the "Corn Desert" we don't get the large accumulation of snow. We get bitter cold, wind, ice, and all that goes with it! It does linger for weeks on end, stays overcast for days, and brings severe phycological stress. So why do we stay here? I think it's because we love the high taxes! Well, maybe it's the humidity in the summer? As for me......I wish I knew.

Bless you, my friend.

Hi Ray and Mike and all others,

Last year was my last year working at Yosemite N.P. We had so little snow our ski area did not open. I retired in June and this year we had tons of snow! You just never know in our mountains. I miss working at yosemite. I worked in the valley at an Info booth in the summer and at our ski area, Badger Pass, in the winter. Even with the government shutdown, trees falling, and flooding, my friends who work there have had a very special year. It is nice hearing from some of my classmates that go all of the way back to Raymond and Irving school and everyone else. Life is GREAT! I am a "7" year stage "4" cancer surviver. The new cancer drugs and a positive life style help to lead a normal life until a cure is found. Thanks for all of the stories and memories you all post on this site.
